Neptune Academy Admissions Information

Staying in Chernivsti, Ukraine and What to Bring

Chernivsti: Chernivtsi is the largest city and capital in the Chernivtsi region and its founding dates back to 1408. Throughout its history it has been a part of several empires including the Hapsburg, Austrian, Austrian/Hungarian, Kingdom of Romania, USSR but has been a part of independent Ukraine since 1991.

Language: The official language of Chernivtsi is Ukrainian, a Slavic-based language. You will find that English is spoken in Chernivtsi but there are a few instances where English will not be understood: grocery and other store clerks/shopkeepers, tram/bus drivers and inspectors, police, banks, etc. Most restaurant and pub staff in the center will speak English.

Meals: Ukrainian cuisine tends to be pork based with plenty of soups. You can find vegetarian options on every menu. If you do not eat pork, other meat options are available. If you order soup, make sure the broth is not pork based. There are a wide variety of non-Ukrainian restaurants throughout Chernivtsi. More information will be provided in the detailed admissions packet.

Weather: Summer in Chernivtsi is temperamental at best. Temperatures can range from seasonable and nice to very hot and stormy. We advise to check the weather before arriving in order to pack accordingly. Click on the link for the most up to date weather forecast.
